Coming Out

Love me for all the right reasons
Beyond your beliefs if you can
Love me through all of life’s seasons
And cherish the person I am

I can’t stop planets from spinning
Or battle the force of the tide
I cannot alter my image
Or the person who’s dwelling inside

Love me despite my convictions
Question the mind that resists
Look deep in the wells of my spirit
And witness the good that exists

You are the source of my being
The lifeline from which I have come
Be gentle with threads spun of kinship
And love me for being your son

False is the mask of deception
That many have worn since their youth
It is I who stakes claim to my person
It is I who am living the truth

Speak to me words of acceptance
These are words that I've been dreaming of
For I am in need of some kindness
And I am in need of your love

Remember the pride you once spoke of
Don’t see me as somebody else
Just love me for all the right reasons
Just love me for being myself
