Schizophrenic’s Have Nothing On Me

Three o’clock in the morning.
Sleep and I have parted ways,
the night and I have compromised –
I’d lay here quietly
as long as it held day at bay.
Quietly,
but for the inside of my head
where torrents of thought raged
as if the temptress outside my bedroom window
was caged inside,
fighting  to be free,
thunder and lighting
the pictures and sounds of wide-awake dreams.

Alone deep in the night,
mind on fire,
Schizophrenic’s have nothing on me.
Morning’s coming,
sleep eludes,
head is bursting with activity –
delusional thinking,
hallucinations,
lack of normal emotional response –
I see, feel, hear everything, experience nothing
but paranoid delusions of you loving me,
that you could still love me,
despite your having left me here,
alone . . .

Five a.m. –
night has broken it’s promise,
day is taking it’s place,
the clock is about to scream it’s warning.
I have to open my eyes and know
you really aren’t here,
it wasn’t all a dream,
it’s reality.

Schizophrenic’s have nothing on me
when the sun opens it’s eyes
and sees me laying here
watching the door,
waiting for you,
waiting for you . . .
just as I’ve always done.

Night,
and it begins again –
sleeplessness,
head bursting with activity –
thoughts of you loving me.

This is very well done, much enjoyed the read.  I've had nights like this.
