A stone, hurled across placid waters, skipping,
splashing until the final fall into the watery
darkness.  Falling lazily toward moss laden
watery earth.

Such is the journey of one’s soul upon the
escape of a final breath, as the mind skips
and stops, falling silently into rest.

A place where, mere moments before,
neurons fired rapidly, painting pictures of
dreams, bringing to the lips a murmur,
one perhaps of a final word of love, or
the gleam of eyes fading into dull orbs
where trust once escaped and bathed
one standing, holding a warm and gentle
hand, perhaps a final squeeze, a twitch
to say ever simply “goodbye.”

Bring to me the smooth cool stone, that
I might again hurl and watch, counting
the splashes one by one.....remembering
of a boy long ago....once again feeling
that urge to look, find yet another stone.

If perhaps I found another stone, might
the breath not escape the cooling lips?
Might the hand not relax and slip slowly
from fingers that ache to hold in that
which is slipping silently away.  As
silence screams and darkness hovers
lazily above....as a tear falls quietly
into the placid waters and a single wave’s
ring touches again and again those of
the stone’s skip....and I whisper goodbye.

Mangus,
This so touching.  Yes, it would be nice to be able to skip those stones, bouncing reflections of past with ripples.  I could sit at this setting for days, skipping stones with you.  (There's a lot I'd like to remember about my Dad and others, too.) This was excellently perceived and expressed.  I enjoyed spending time there.  Excellent imagery.

Barry, oh the memories.....what superb poetry this is -- like one of those moments when you made the stone skip as far as you could -- this one went a long, long way.

This one was deeply felt Barry..
Much enjoyed the depth of mood here.

Saying goodbye forever, knowing it is forever, is never easy but in this you've said it perfectly, not just in a way helpful to you, but all who read this will find acceptance just a little bit easier.

Very, very well written, my friend.
