To Sharon, with Love

It may just seem to be an ordinary day
With not a breeze to lift a willow’s graceful sway
The sun’s on fire and beads of sweat alight the brow
An ordinary sizzling day and yet somehow ....

I can’t help wonder why my heavy heart would dance
As though it were upon the brink of a romance
As if my soul had found a long sought mystery
And brandished it upon the morning’s reverie

What would consume a quiet spirit such as I
With wisps of laughter silent heat could not deny?
For flitting in the breezeless hazy mist of June
Are jingling notes that flaunt a happy birthday tune

I know, I know what makes a willow branch to bend!
It is remembrance of a sweet and distant friend
She was the one to pull me from life’s faltering depth
And make me taste the whif of honey-suckle’s breath

She made me laugh at whims that only she desired
She taught me how seek the things that I admired
She showed me unknown courage through that treacherous storm
And led me to her welcome hearth-side, safe and warm

And so the smile that rests upon my pillow’s down
That puts a jewel of ruby bliss upon my crown
Is just the memory of a friend so sweet and dear
That thoughts of her would bring her splendid spirit near

To you, my friend, who’s given me so very much
I pray that you can feel the closeness of my touch
A warm embrace to mark this ordinary day
With friendship’s fondest thoughts from one who’s far away

A Happy, Happy Birthday! Cheers!Good Health ! and Bliss!
With warm and tender touch of little grandchild’s kiss!
The smallness of a loving hand caressing yours!
A font of love from which an endless fountain pours!

Happy Birthday, Sharon!
You are the joy of this beautiful day!
Love You to Bits!
Liz

Liz

You do this so well....like the natural flow of water when it reaches the edge of rock, the sound is lovely.  Happy birthday, Sharon...you are so very special...as is the poet who wrote this.  I love you both to bits!

Good Grief!  This poem  is absolutely lovely and I thank you so much!  I will get it done nicely and frame it now you realize?  Liz, I cherish all the time we have spent together, and there will be more I am sure.  See, she wouldn't let me near that darn flea market down there so I have to go back to the land of Boston Chicken, and those whopping big Clydesdales, LOL!  Seriously though, to the hostess with heart, from a friend that could not love you more, especially when you wear a baseball hat and jeans.  Now that is the Lizzie I love the very most!

Thank you dear friend, you are truly a jewel in this lady's tiara.

THank you for your lovely responses, and thank you Sharon for posting pictures of the beautiful birthday flowers in Kit's "Announcements" post. What an exquisite poem by Kit and what lovely floral arrangements from your friends at passions. Enjoy the rest of this special day, and be at peace.
Thank you all again so much
Liz

Oh, I forgot to say that nobody got my joke! I was  playing off of LeeJ's remark about the 90 degree weather we're having here in Pa. Get it??? OH, well, I never was very good at humor. I thought it was a bit clever, though....(oh, well)

I got it, I got it!  However, as I told you on the phone, this is the LAST birthday I intend on having.  Used to be that I could get away with 29 for a bit, then 35 for a bit, and then it 45 for a bit, but then it started to not work anymore.  Now I think I will let them think I am "well preserved", and say I am 90, so they will be absolutely astounded right?

Liz, this is absolutely beautiful. Warmth, friendship and birthday hugs wrapped up together in flowing rhyme, from one wonderful lady to another. Wish I could give the two of you a big hug right now.

Happy Birthday Sharon!

Best wishes and big hugs to you both,

Love Kit
