Came June and clouds
played afternoons across the horizon
in build of grey and white with afternoon heat
that cracked earth into jigsaw puzzles of drought

if few sprinkles fell
greedy dry sucked them across lips of red
trying to swallow all that might ease thirsty roots
and for moments awaken memories of green
as June should be...
                     lush

My eyes are older now
and my own stem beginning to bend
from parched days and nights
when the only thing to touch my lips
was my tongue
              and it lied
telling me the clouds
there on the curve of earth
might bring to me
                  relief
and nurture of the lush
                         feel of you
soft as rain against my skin

"High today, 88. Hot and humid again folks!"

My eyes gaze towards the clouds...
       and I remember you
but can not speak of more
than the sting of cracked lips
unable to form the words that tell
                 some simple truths

Cpat,
I "feel" when you write. Many times want to cry.  YOU BAD PERSON , YOU!  (Just kidding.  I appreciate your poetry muchismo.)  You're very talented to draw people in as you do.  Have a good day.

in watch of rainclouds
sailing in skittish break
north from south
lighting the evening sky
with white

while June fireflies flitted, sparking the night

I thought if anyone
would write
of clouds

living in a desert, ive seen the greedy sand gobble all the moisture...ive seen the hearts here as dry as the earth...
sometimes even tears are rationed

"lush"...that word feels good on the tongue

I love where you take me.

Ron,

as I recall, you are in somewhere in the Midwest?

I've been there in June and it was hot and humid, even when it rained a bit.

I recall, too, that there has been a draught there for a few years.

I like the analogy of comparison -- the weather and you.

Hope all is well!

clouds played afternoons across the horizon

I knew I was going to love this one the moment I read these words... I just didn't know I'd feel the parch so intensely. *S*

Absolutely wonderful!!!

This is the one I came to reply to when I saw the newer post.

This piece is beautiful.  I missed your "thoughts".

Your imagery is always so active and compelling -- consistently, not just occasionally like the rest of us.....with the dimensions in it held equally.
