With or without reason

Sometimes showers hit that overwhelm,
surfacing unheeded, unexpected and then
disappearing just as suddenly as they appear.

Other times welcoming mists of joy
purify; softly showering, cleansing
as they dissipate.

When the angry outbursts wreak havoc,
seek cover as they run their course,
their hammering assault sometimes lasts
for days upon days, the flood gates
wide open as sadness reigns.

But those that pour down when grief swells
to overfull have no rules, they spill out
with or without reason.

Oh, lady... you know I like this one... If only we knew whether to pack an umbrella or not we might feel we had some control... but we're completely at the mercy of something with no pattern.
