Distant Star

I am undeserving of life's treasures
Whether it be a smile or a joyful cry,
A summer breeze or the smell after the rain;
Not worthy of a kiss from an Angel
Or to hear the laughter of a child;
My heart does not deserve to love without lust
Or the satisfaction of knowing the difference.
I do deserve twice fold the tears and pain I have caused
So I sadly await the sentence of past lovers and death.

But where is the compassion of Cupid's arrows?
Arrows that seem to enjoy the taste of my blood,
Nicking and cutting the word "Fear" into my skin
As I dodge and avoid commitment,
Sprinting to the other side of the rainbow,
Stopping only for a second to smell the fragrance of what could have been---
And she smelled of sweet honey and slightly of bubblegum and roses,
And I found in her an appreciation of innocence;
But she pitied my selfishness
And turned her back to face the glory of the sun
Absorbing its warmth...
And her eyes appeared as two flaming moons
Shining a light on my consciousness,
Making my soul ashamed of its nakedness---
A baring of my sins and confessions
Has me transforming in the shadows
And my eyes appeared as two black moons
Piercing, like the fearless eagle spotting prey
Taking flight into the awaiting skies
Soaring...then fading...
A speck or a sparkling gem in the Heavens,
A star only through my eyes.

Marcel

"And her eyes appeared as two flaming moons
Shining a light on my consciousness,"

So many thoughts caught fire as I read this...
Sometimes distance is a relative term...
Authentic and genuine excellence

Maybe, I'm interpreting this incorrectly, but it sounds like you've met your match!  Let me know if I misunderstood.  At any rate, I really enjoyed reading this.  ........jo
