I heard your voice
Soft and seeking,
Filled with love –
How did you know
This night needed you so?

Because you've always known.

Reaching eagerly
Through the darkness,
Propelled by ache
To feel your touch
My hands close
On yawning empty

That’s all that’s left me.

And tears deny
A return to dreams

Such an ache sweet lady...
I know this feeling,
and you wrote of it so well.

After a night like that Dear Belle, I think you need a shot of Southern Comfort! You got to me so much that I felt like taking you in my wings and comforting you! Hmm! I've got it! Howsabout I send our Bammy friend over tonight! Now there's a suthern man who knows how to treat a lady! ~ and as the saying goes, "A friend in need, is a friend in deed!"

PS: I know, my friend... I know... and wish it wasn't so. *S* Thank you!!

Enchantress: I'm not sure why I can fall back into a nightmare over and over... but the good ones insist on escaping? *S* Thank you so very much! *S*

jellybeans: And retreating to the recliner doesn't help... but that's another poem. *S* Thank you, my friend... and just remember... we may be wobbly... but the lean against one another provides steadiness. *S* I love you! *S*

EA: BLECK!!!! patooey... spit... splutter!!! LOL I was gullible enough to try that stuff once... how could I not when I keep offering suthern comfort? LOL But once was MORE than enough... I'll save drinking cough syrup for when I'm sick! LOL Now the other part of your suggestion is MUCH more attractive! LOL Thank you so very much... the smiles are appreciated! *S*

Suthern beloved one, Oh my Lord that is a profoundly moving and exquisitely well written piece. I felt a pang, and my breath actually caught in my throat. That’s how well written it is, it made me feel the aching loneliness. This is why I say over and over again what an excellent writer you are darling one, your ability to move a spirit is unsurpassed. Awesome writing and YOU are supremely special

If in the darkness of sorrow you need a hand to hold reach out and I’ll be there, take care my sweet friend and know you will see the light again

I empathize fully, me friend - and let me tell you Southern Comfort comes in various flavors - I mean, there's a lot of - Southern -  gentlemen on board here that would love to offer - Comfort - .

Not making light of your feelings here, me friend...understand them well, and you expressed them perfectly.

Tears seem to have a way of doing that...
alot.
Then in the morning you're left even more broken, and sleepless!
Nights are just too long.
I hope your next night is better.

I know that ache, Laura...I've felt it myself, and I've heard that sound...the one that reaches far into the present, and gives both comfort and torment.

This whole poem, and these lines especially, show what a poem should be -- an experience, a chosen memory that the reader takes along after the poem itself is forgotten.

Mushy, sweet friend... I know you're there... and I'm so very glad. *S* Thank you for always being in my corner! *S*

Corinne: Thank you very much for thinking so! *S* Those were actually the first lines... they just kept getting pushed down by attention hogs. *G*

jwesley: There certainly are some wonderful gentlemen here... southern and elsewhere. *S* But they're all taken??? LOL That's okay... I can hold their words. *S* Thank you very much, my friend... smiles are all that keeps that slow moving clock intact. *S*

Susan: I'm glad you did.. thank you so much! *S*

iliana: Then it touched a beautiful heart indeed. *S* Thank you so very much!!

GG: Thank you... but it wasn't... even a glimpse of hope beats barren. *S* Thank you very much!!!

JM: Of course I was!!! LOL You think I found some confidence somewhere or what? LOL Thank you!!! *S*

Ratleader: Now THERE's a poem... your response flows more smoothly than my posted work! *S* You touch me deeply, my friend... for I know you understand... Thank you!!

Sudhir: Thank you so very much. *S* That a poet of your caliber finds this fine means much to me.  *S*

vandana: Thank you!!! *S*

Sadelite: Yes... they do. *S* And I'm honored you should loan me that classification. *S* Thank you!!!

Toerag: Hmmmm... that depends... on whether you're offering me the hot and steamy ones... or the ones of you in hot and steamy locations??? *G* Never mind... I don't want your women any more than I want your nightmares! LOL Thank you, my friend... very much! *S* (And by the way... you do realize that Earth Angel was willing to ship you over here??? That's the only fair warning you're gonna get! LOL)

Sunshine: I have to... I'm all out of ear plugs. *S* Thank you!!

EA: If that was the only alcoholic beverage available, I'd have no problem being a teetotaler! LOL Thank you, sweet lady... so much! *S*

Marge: Could you bag it up and toss it? Please? *S* Thank you so much, my friend... I'm glad you liked! *S*
