The wear of time cannot erase
the eyes that shimmer at dawn’s break
For in the soul of gleaming eyes
a fire still burns, will not forsake.

An embers glow of orange and red
beneath the ash in a hearth’s seal
Where warmth remains, will not replace
the lonely sound of distant peal.

As bells do toll and tell of times
when once the heart beat ever pure
A new sound resonates within
and tells of strength that will endure.

The will to fight and face the task
of foes and shadows that appear.
Though exhausted, in need of rest
the warrior stands, to face his fear.

For fear is but an emotion
stirred by blindness the mind yet sees.
A test and a tribulation
that only through faith one can ease.

funny how we have faith as a child, and then somewhere in the middle we lose it somehow...then as we get older, we realize it's all we really have

God gives us what we need in the beginning

O, Fearless One, go forth undaunted!

When one is brimming with faith, there is no room left for the fear that can wreak havoc in one's life!

Wonderful write, Sir Knight!

Of faith and fighting... subjects close to my heart for sure! There seem to be fewer and fewer warriors on the fields now. Several archers who seem to throw arrows into the backs of their knight friends, and the number of the stronger, the paladins and centurions, is almost none now. But this kind of chivalry isn't dead, not as long as wonderful poets and wonderful men, like you, keep it alive.
I'm keeping this in my library...

Always, Alyssa
