When the good times have gone away
and you ask of the need to pray,
a hole appears somewhere just there
in the approximate middle of soul.

It may be unbalanced, un-centred in life,
but water collects, lies stagnant as dead,
and gathers disposable non-essentials
till it no longer can green the fields.

And when you’re awake and waiting
for a visitor, taxi, bus, train,
it’s cold that you feel somewhere just there
in the approximate middle of heart.

It may be a ruse to make you believe
it’s winter and has to be cold
but the jacket you grab, too small, too short,
is missing the comfort of arms.

Approximately there, somewhere just there,
is a spark beginning to flame
and the wind far away is growing a gale
and advancing towards the hole.

When the good times have gone away,
approximately there, somewhere just there,
in the middle, back, front, of a brain
is a wave and a smile to say, “I’m alive” –
and that’s the end of this tale!

Honeybunch, I find your poems so life-affirming and uplifting.  This was another one of those......enjoyed. I could visualize you pointing to the various parts of your body very easily and liked that repetition throughout the write.   ....jo

Thanks so much, jo, but I'll let you into a little secret - I often have to re-read what I've written to keep myself on track and it sometimes doesn't work.
