To Heal The Moon

If ever the moon rose perfect,
healed of all her random wounds,
the darkened seas that mar her face
made bright and smooth again,
how sweet would be her rising then,
how bright the fade up from
vermillion into white, her shine
so useful to farmers and police.

But what would lovers do
in such a sterile light?
Would that bland fluorescence
give us thoughts of faces, rabbits,
kittens’ paws? Think a blank sphere
void of character, and wonder:
where would we find nursery rhymes?

Can there be a story written
without marking the page?
Just one, of dullness to despair.
We could as easily say what's written
spoils the paper; and sometimes it does.
More often we spoil the tale by seeing
only flaws and not the character.

Let words of time and happenstance
be written on this moon, let asteroids
blast in -- there's beauty in them all!

Indeed...but then it would not be the moon...perhaps a happy face...I see the face of Jesus when I look at the moon...ever since a friend of mine many years ago told me the same...James

Ed

This literally gave me goosebumps, as I was looking at the moon last night with all it's glorious imperfection and seeing only beauty.  Thank you for writing this poem.

The title of this grabbed me,
and the poem didn't let me down at all!
You're so right, it's imperfectings that makes things perfect.
Amazing...

There certainly are no flaws in this tale, Ratleader.

Enjoyed the read.

Can there be a story written
without marking the page?

~*~

While you did not intend
to let my thoughts go where they insisted,
then I would not be here
reminding you...

that yes, indeed, stories were
the gift of life, the imprint upon and by
which lives progressed...only they were
"written" on the mind, and in the heart...

and never marked a page.

Our technology has broadened, respectively;
but I think our minds, and hearts,
have narrowed in kind, that we no longer
can carry the stories of our ancestors
within ourselves, to pass along...

This probably makes no sense, but yes,
Sir,
you have given me [once again] some new
grist for the poetry wheel...

Amen. *S* It takes a discerning eye to see beauty and perfection in the flawed and imperfect... thank heavens you have such! *S*

This is wonderful... yes... one I'll think of each time I see shadows and shapes lurking on the moon's imperfect surface... and that thinking will have many applications. *S*
