Upon the high crest
Where I happened to take rest
Changing well worn socks
On the edge of jutting rocks,
There was much to see
Views up and down the valley
As I paused on my journey.

The valley was wide
And an eagle did wind ride
Crossing so much ground;
Engrossed did not hear the sound
Of goat approaching
To confront my encroaching
I found it most surprising.

Searching for a snack
Attempted to eat my pack
Which I had set down
Upon the crest's rocky ground.
He must think me rude
Not giving my pack as food
When on his perch I intrude

Grabbing up my pack
The goat then prepared attack
Leaping from rocks
With one foot wearing a sock
Not a good option
Jumping to oblivion
This was time for caution.

Dropping the snack pack
He then changed attention back
Putting my shoe on
Leaving the laces undone
Quickly I did hop
Across jutting stone outcrop
Pack grabbing without stop.

Moving so to face
Off the ledge I did then race
Goat following
Till the trees were shadowing,
Taking the path down
Listening the goat sound,
I with speed crossed sloping ground

I’m sure he’s still there
With long horns and saggy hair,
Patrolling the stones
Which makes up his high ground home
He might be friendly
But I did not wait to see,
Rather than showdown, I flee.

Professor,
I can well imagine this!   Funny, perhaps not in your shoe, but amusing to read.   I've had a few experiences with Billy before, too!  (not Wild Bill- wouldn't want to share my pack with him!)
                    Enjoyed,

Your billy goat tale
has made me quite pale
I'm glad you're still hale
not stuck on some shale

But when you should climb
Someday and some time,
Along take my rhyme
It's goat feed sublime.

You tell a great  story.  KJ

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

Professor Gloom,
Was that an encounter of one ol' goat with another? LMBO I have a pretty good image of this exchange. A kodak moment missed I'm sure.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
