walking the surreal

There is a truth
I keep locked away
In a box of polished stone
Its edges gilded in glowing gold

I’ve locked this box
With a silver key
Forged of the finest ore
And worked in a most delicate filigree

This key is hidden
From searching eyes
Swallowed by my mouth
And coming to rest . . .

In the deepest reaches of my heart

Deeper than flesh
Farther than bone
The key is lost
To this box of stone

This beautiful box
Holding this truth most dear
Is set upon an upper ledge
Behind the average thought and the daily wear

And there it shall remain
Closeted and most secure
So only I shall ever know
The truth of the truth that is hidden there

Safe from the deepest reaches of my heart

Deeper than flesh
Farther than bone
The key is lost
To this box of stone

S.A.Toulme,
Though it is a secret, it is precious in the telling. A tender write. A lovely read. Peace.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I think we all have boxes...

You wrote of it very well and I enjoyed it.

Oooooh, Susan, this one touched me deeply -- I think I've got a box like that myself!  So well expressed!     ........jo
