Listening to every heart

Finding Voice, Hearing Heart

There he sat,
a calm, quiet man,
ready to judge,
but not equate
poetry read, instead of debate,

He shared his senses
of sound and light; said
“delivery is key, and slow,
is right.”

“Do not rush,” so slow, we did,
in tune to share our words once hid;
“do not rush” he said, again,
slower, we voiced words once penned.

His mind alert, his hands in prayer,
fingertips touched a silent air,
he leaned in, then breathed back out,
a humble sigh, but a silent shout.

He made me see my words anew,
And hear them as a different brew;
I gleaned a voice
not heard before,
as they passed lips,
seemingly less a chore.

I found at first, in this new voice,
a different poet,
one with a choice;
and thought perhaps,
I   was   reading   you;
then right of copy
struck me true…

These, my initials ~
I must claim my poem;
These are my dreams,
in slow voice of muse,
who, to an ear,
would lift my dreams,
as if muse silently could.

Eyes have seen my poetry,
this I know, for this I’ve seen;
and now I realize, if I’ve no fear,
then some one day,
I hope you’ll hear
the way I read not only you….

but the way I feel
my own words,
true.

Finding my voice,
but hearing      your heart.

Karilea - if I whisper, will you listen?  Keeping in mind, I must stand close...

Rushing with the pen,
you may not hear your own voice.
Listen for the heart.

There's a couple last lines I wish I'd written.  Hiya Kari...

Beautiful! If only we would all read ourselves so carefully, there'd be more poets in the world -- though fewer for a while.

Karilea,
Poetry is a picture you paint so very well. My eyes do so enjoy the feast. You touch my heart again as you do so very well. And yet another keeper. Bless you sweet friend.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

To have someone listen for the sake of listening...and to be able to give good feedback on all aspects of a reading, is quite the opportunity, and I am grateful that I have this new mentor, that I might hone my skills in delivery, as well as in the writing itself.  Thank you ALL for enjoying this one with me.  Now...I shall forward it on to the person who inspired it to begin with!
