Moved from a shack to a barn

Where yesterday
there was the chrysalis

Now, there is moth

Awakened and emerged
free from the wreckage
that had protected him

Recast from the essential elements
into a new being

Equipped now, with the tools
that would be necessary to continue

So, he rests for a while

And scans an unfamiliar landscape
while blood fills places
he never before, knew he possessed

Then takes fight
as a creature of the night

Perhaps to fulfill the ancient urge
to find one of like kind

Or, contrarily

Waste himself against
against the barrier that separates
him from the light that compels

Before either, dying in the effort
or wandering off
looking no better for it

(I thought I would use this space as a cocoon for this poem. You can see...the Chrysalis is now gone)

Very powerful!  Sometimes I think we do forget how much can change in so little time!  Excellent!

is soon, gone forever

Ed, the title caught my attention and the poem itself, held me.  In a way, it also speaks for me.

beautifully written.
