Accidental Gift

I found them just so,
three accidental strands of gold
still curling softly together
as if you'd chosen them for me,
left where I'd be sure to find
and lose myself in the memory.

I've read that book, you know,
relished the pages where
an elf queen gave such a gift;
but you're no elf, no queen,
and I, certainly no dwarf,
will never have the skill to set
them in imperishible crystal
as a treasure for all time.

Still, I'll hold them as I may,
if only as what they are,
three tiny expressions of you
as dear, as binding as a golden chain.
Somehow I will keep them near me,
not forever, unless love and memory
can last so long.

If I should ever question why I look for your work each time I visit PIP, I've only to read this again... for beauty and excellence such as this is worth waiting for. *S*
You write of a gift... and give us a romantic treasure... wonderful work!!!

I still have a tarnished silver chain my grandmother gave me when I was 10, and it, along with a few other things are beyond any price to me, (p.s. I am taking them with me and I mean it!)

Great sentiments and a wonderfully worded poem.

Kazm

Some things are priceless because of love and no other reason...your poem expresses that so beautifully.  Thank you!
