A Spat At Parting

Flare up, turn away,
always the same.
Why this pattern?
I’ve had my quota
of pain, how can this
make parting easier?

I don’t know,
maybe it makes
the hurt voluntary,
or the heat of it
changes the focus,
gives our hearts
a reason they
can understand.

What I do know is,
it doesn’t work.
Two for one is
no trade at all.

I don't know the answers... but I do know you've captured something universal there... so many people turn on each other instead of towards each other in times of grief... and any unwanted parting brings a measure of grief.

This is poignant perfection, my friend.

Sometimes, neither the heart, nor the head,
can understand why spats seem so important...
unless you can find reason to kiss and make up.
Perhaps that's what the spat is truly designed for?

Hmmmmmm

Interesting thought here, Jamie...one that I hadn't been aware of in myself..but I see it does happen sometimes.  Maybe it's human nature?

James...

I can't think of anything helpful.  At the moment I was trying to, your title flashed before me as (something) "Starting".
(Sometimes my eyes play tricks on me!)  But perhaps, the change of letter order is meaningful. Who knows?  Interesting how one can rearrange the letters... I hope you are able to rearrange things for the best.

James, you seem to be at a turning point -- there is no easy way around something that doesn't make sense between two people; you said this well.  Sounds like she needs to turn back around and confront her own issues.  Best wishes.   ....jo
