Forever In Your Heart

It was a frosty morn,
a son, a child, a life,
came into the world, born,

Happy were the tears,
she cried, rejoiced,
love soothed her fears,

As the years slowly passed,
she watched him grow,
from a child to a man at last,

Then darkness came,
like a cloud in the skies,
the government was to blame,
tears filled her eyes,

She read the letter,
draft was the only word seen,
how she wanted it all to be better,
but there was no in between,

Mamas' baby, little boy,
"Teach me to ride my bike,"
"Buy me that new toy",

So fast, the memories,
raced, danced inside her head,
this can't be true, a lie, she read?,

time came for his flight out,
goodbyes, tears, hugs,
her mind filled with so much doubt,

All that pain, she cried,
to bring a life to earth,
that day, a part of her died,
worry started the day of his birth,

She remembered all the doctor trips,
to the zoo, camping out, baseball,
boy scouts and building ships,

She thought of all the love,
all the time and care,
she prayed to God above,

Please protect him,
every night she prayed the prayer,
to sacrifice her son for freedom,
would they remember? would they care?

The monster was killed,
many lives were lost,
it was a bloody battlefield,
today we are still paying the cost,

She remembers his monsters,
they always lived under his bed,
but this ones name was Hitler,
now the monster is dead,

Her son came back home,
with honors, with pride,
laying inside his wooden box,
the American flag by his side,

Tears came pouring down,
as rain, dripping red,
bloody tears from souls,
from the living, from the dead,

Red rain, pours,
whenever there is war,
nobody wins, no one scores,

Everybody looses,
nothing gets resolved,
but the red rain still falls,
falling where it chooses,

Worlds are still built with walls,
the earth is in so much pain,
Who will ever stop the pouring of the red rain?

Sometimes the casualties of war are not just the men that died but the people left behind..this speaks very big volumes of the true cost of war...a brilliant poem of remembrance...they would be proud and honoured by this poem ARH...thank you for sharing this...

Lots of feelings in this...my son called me today and said that he received a letter...they told him that he better join a reserve unit or he was going to be reactivated and possibly sent to Iraq...he was still in the standby reserves...subject to call back until completing a six year obligation...I'm back on that worry road...James
