The demons of yesterday
Meet the devils of tomorrow,
Together they haunt me
As I turn out the light.
They circle my mind
Dancing their dance,
Thrashing and grinding
Through and around
Over and under.
I toss and I turn
Swivel this way and that,
Try to escape their
Tormenting calls.
Try to stem the flow
Of tears that they exorcise
From the depths of me.

Peaceful sleep so slow
in coming, deliver me from
these beasts of night,
habitants of the dark,
who hide in the shadows.
Take me to peaceful dreams
Of things longed for but unknown,
Of yellow, orange, blue, green, red,
Anything but this inky night
That wraps itself around me
Drawing me into the witchdoctor
Bone throwing chanting dance
Of salt water and sighs.

some people find solace in the night, and some dont...
then there are people like me strung between..so i just use a nightlight

Good writing. I used to fear the dark until I realized the beauty of it when I used to get up at 4 a.m. in the morning and walk out to feed my two calves and other animals (on the farm many years ago) -- it was during that time I began to feel the peace of a quiet earth -- like the great man said, "the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself." ..... but I hope you find peaceful dreams.
