Reminiscing
By Paul Wilson

I remember the time that we first met
You had a new bike it was blue and red
Mine was a hand me down with a bad chain
My name was J.T. yours T.J. you said

We became best friends from that first day on
Riding bikes and playing games everyday
We built a tree house and called it our camp
It was our secret place where we would play

All thru school we would challenge each other
If you made the honor roll I would too
In sports we would play with all of our heart
I always tried to be better than you

You and I would always help each other
When one of our backs was against the wall
We did our best… each challenge we would meet
To you my best friend… I would give my all

That fateful night I will never forget
We were taking a ride in your new car
Just two guys cruising the local hot spots
Showing it off… we hadn’t driven far

The first thing I saw was the bright head lights
The last thing I heard was the squealing brakes
An angel from heaven came down that night
To take one of us home now my heartaches

I love the times I sit and talk to you
Reminiscing about the good old days
Relieving the time we spent together
Before we had to go our separate ways

Paul, this was such a tenderly sad poem -- I lost several friends, one after another, when I was about that age -- I, too, believe they are there for me still.

I know this feeling very well, I too lost my best friend in an auto accident when I was at a very impressionable age. God knows it took me a very long time to get over the pain and relive the good times again. My heart goes out to you my friend.

JL...Nice to hear from you my friend. Thanks for reading this little bit of fiction. Glad you enjoyed. The old Gulf is kicking up this morning. Thanks for the reply...Paul

Kristabell...Most poems really do originate from the heart like you said but I also write from my imagination and try to feel what others might feel in certain circumstances. I really appreciate you taking time to read & reply. Thanks...Paul
