With the Title Comes...

For my mother, I offer the shoulder and open arms,
that her mother would have for her, if only she was here.
For a mother to know that only these moments now matter,
these moments of time that will slow to a halt
in the next week and days thereafter.

And maybe now I can understand the hardship it has brought,
my fighting with her to get her here before it was too late.
My week of screaming through every pour,
trying to understand the "want not" of it all.

For I am not a mother, only a sister, an aunt and a daughter
and shall never know the enjoyment of, nor the trials
that come along with the title.

M

somehow you do know, regardless of title, just being a human being in tune with those around her

Maureen, bless your heart -- I do understand -- I have been trying for several years to get Mom to live with me.  She refuses.  It is so hard for them to not want to be a burden and yet want to have us near.

M,
My great-great aunt Jewell mourned that fate. I'm not sure I ever helped her understand how much she mothered me in her old age. The comfort is in those you love and I know you do that well. Peace, dear friend. A lovely write.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
