Listening to every heart

Konrad’s Dance

It was not easy, after all
quitting thoughts of that woman
who had, in some way,
sensed my despair,
who had followed my trail into another world,

and me, never showing myself
to her.

It was not easy, being only a fantasy to her.

Dana left me with chocolate dreams,
but she, this older woman,
she dressed my needs in fabrics
I thought I had left
behind,

so I visited her own steps again, asked and gained
a small weekend job at the hacienda
where she had lunched, breathed, walked, touched.

If I could clean up behind her, in some way,
wipe away her footsteps, clear the air
of her fragrance,
perhaps I could cleanse
my own thoughts.

She had only been a few hours at
Hacienda Xcanatun, long enough to enjoy
a meal, walk the gardens, but I swear
she left behind
her soul.

She visited my dreams last night, dancing
with her arms uplifted, as if she had not
a care in the world, or at least, not in this world;

she was neither slim, nor heavy,
tall nor short, but just there,
a creature beseeching the gods and skies
that they would rain down on her
all that would give her
life, and knowledge.

Never would I have expected to awaken this morning,
to see her there, just where forest shadows begin,
and to hear her, again, in this lush and lusty
el jardin, beckoning,
her limbs in lift, in spiritual white,

gesturing, dancing, in and with
ocean-swept wind songs.

Look at her.  She once traced my steps ~
and if I but cross the bridge ~
she will lead me
into shadows
that will remain
in my heart
for all
time.

Me thinks Konnie boyeeeee better go....cross that bridge.....
chocolate is over-rated...gives one migraines.

lovely mystical write poetess of the sun.
keep em coming.

Cant believe you need me, never thought I would be needed for anything.
Cant believe my shoulders carry such important weight as your tears.

Again this amazing figure gives us such a neat picture of you.  Well done!  KJ

The last three stanzas of this poem are  powerful, filled with an almost mythical beauty and foreshadowing.  Lovely picture too, it adds to the poem.

Wait...if he goes won't there be "shadows on his heart for all time"???

That is going to leave a mark...

  Do go on, Karilea!

Oh, you are freaking me out, now. I visited Merida when I was 16 with my parents, and visited the Mayan ruins (back when one was still allowed to climb them).  This reminds me so much of that time.

Great capturing that tropical feel that makes the air dense with heat and romance.

I remember my room in the hotel (but it was the Hotel Merida, I think). It had ceilings 2 stories high with a chandalier that hung all the way down like a pendulum.

When we climbed Chichen Itaza, my mother chose that moment to reveal her fear of heights. She got stuck halfway up (or down, depending how you looked at it) and clung to a thick metal chain for two hours, while my stepdad took pictures of her from the top and I ran up and down the ten stories.

Drank coconut juice right from a coconut, too.

Great memories you've evoked, see?

Always a pleasure to read your work. This is one of your best, IMO!
