where the wild flowers grow

0 posted 2004-05-06 06:46 AM

Is this a sign,
of my demise?

Oh! This winter was crimson,
stained with blood!
I speak the truth, you see.

So what does this spring
bring,
carnivorous flowers?
Man-hunting weeds!

I pity them, laugh and even mock them,
but
I do salute them for their bravery.

You were abducted in a field,
remember?
You were wearing a blue dress,
green sandles and
a small tie in your hair.

At that time, you were questioning the
aspects of a dream-like state you were in.

You were still yet stolen when I called
you in for supper,
this was when I heard you gasp.

I figured it was only an eight legged thing
you took suprise by.
You haven't returned yet.

I counted more than seven days,
then eight,
nine.

It begun with thirty when I stopped counting,
and with my insanity (caused by a mixture of worry
and silence)
I wondered whether you ever existed at all.

I haven't eaten in six days,
sitting in the place I saw you go last.
I counted every piece of crab grass
growing in between the wheat.

It was here that you wrote,
meditated,
and prayed. I'm not sure
what else you'd done here.

Give me back my daughter, you
damned weeds! You
foolish flowers,
hindering her speech!

There is nothing in reply.

Your father has left me,
I have been cruel.
Five years I have waited,
for your return..

Where must you be, my lovely,
your ghostly image in what was once
a place I lit candles
and sang to the gods.

If you were ever freed, I'd hope
you'd remember where
I am waiting..

Thirty years have passed,
and I am nothing but bones.

There is a grave here now.

You are still alive.
