Midnight Breakfast
By: Noah Eaton
5/2/04
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
whatever you call it,
.
.
.
it was never emancipation,
.
.
.
walking with feet of clay,
.
.
.
spilling blood,
.
.
.
the ghost of a fist,
.
.
.
still rattles in the coffin,
.
.
.
has history ever had a proper burial,
.
.
.
can we tell the graveyard apart from the jungle...
.
.
.
.
.
Can we re-align,
.
.
.
can we take it in stride,
.
.
.
without having to make a compromise...
.
.
.
.
.
can we come back together,
.
.
.
can we serve midnight breakfast,
.
.
.
can we anesthetize the dinner?
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
So they say there are hawks,
.
.
.
and then there are doves,
.
.
.
some say we keep making it better,
.
.
.
while others see it's only gotten worse,
.
.
.
I scream from the top of my lungs,
.
.
.
why can't we act out of love,
.
.
.
they say actions mean more than words,
.
.
.
and that's why we have guns...
.
.
.
.
.
but can they really help us re-align,
.
.
.
can they help us take it in stride,
.
.
.
without having to make a compromise...
.
.
.
.
.
can we come back together,
.
.
.
can we serve midnight breakfast,
.
.
.
can we anesthetize the dinner?
.
.
.
.
.
I see a world raped,
.
.
.
but not torn apart,
.
.
.
our eyes flicker like lightbulbs,
.
.
.
but we're still aware how to take it to heart,
.
.
.
there's no waiting line,
.
.
.
in volunteering here,
.
.
.
let's close up the mausoleum,
.
.
.
and let the hatchet rest,
.
.
.
can't you see it's beautiful,
.
.
.
without the eye shadow,
.
.
.
all birds know how to fly,
.
.
.
we both know how to fly,
.
.
.
.
.
so let's re-align,
.
.
.
let's take it in stride,
.
.
.
let's get through it without making a compromise,
.
.
.
.
.
and we come back together,
.
.
.
we can serve midnight breakfast,
.
.
.
and anesthetize the dinner...
.
.
.
.
.
CAN WE RE-ALIGN,

can we take it in stride,

can't we let the anger subside,
.
.
.
CAN WE COME BACK TOGETHER,

can we serve midnight breakfast,

and forget about dinner?
.
.
.
.
.
Hope deferred,

makes the heart grow sick,

give us your hands,

and I'll take you in...
.
.
.
I SAID HOPE DEFERRED,

makes the heart grow sick,

GIVE US YOUR HANDS,

and I'll take you in...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

i like your point of view...good strong message nicely done

Can you hear my cries, can you hear my pleads, will you watch me burn...or would you bleed for me?

Everything you write is so moving that it causes me to think even deeper then I already have. You are exceptional.

Your words have wings and they fly high and free like the birdies!
