I'm using this poem, written by my late father to my son....I can think of no finer tribute to my sweet mother, and all she put up with for me...MY little tribute goes like this:

I can still remember
My mother's gentle touch
Her love was never ending
Things were never tough.

I guess I was her favorite
She never knew what to expect
Though I gave her fits
I treated her with great respect.

My mother was always there,
As I am for my kids too,
I guess that's where I learned,
The years are very few.

Now, my dad's words..which are a real tribute
to my mom....she's "Granny" in this...written to my son...

When your dad was a little boy,
He had some unusual pets,
He'd bring them home in cardboard boxes,
Old tin cans and nets.

There were lizards, guppies, June bugs,
Snakes and birds and dogs,
And "Granny" wasn't too happy,
When tadpoles turned to frogs.

A turtle that vomited, he wanted to buy,
And once he tamed a butterfly,
To sit and flutter on his finger,
While we all wondered why it would linger.

Just wait and see if your Dad giggles,
When you bring home something that wiggles.

Both of my parents are long gone now...and, I miss them alot...but, they're here with me, most of the time, I still hide things from them, like most of the garbage I write here.....

Toe:
You are such a softy, for being such a smarty pants!
Enjoyed your tribute.

No need to hide this from them, Toe... no need at all. *S* I think we see echoes of that boy with the vomiting turtle in some of your volleys at Bal and LJA... but that trusting butterfly saw what shines here... a loving, tender heart. *S*

So very beautiful, my friend...

Very Sweet Toeman.

I remember when my boys brought wiggly stuff home...

Oh I don't know, Toe...
if you can make the Sun rain...
then I'm sure
you can do just about anything...

like show your heart
more often.

I see where you got your gifts...

and I'm sorry, but you can NEVER
hide from your parents.

Never.

the sweetest heart, to make people laugh and cry all at once...and still have a smile on their face all the while

Toerag, after getting to know you, I can say two things for sure...(1)your mother had to be an absolute saint to put up with you and (2) she did one hell of a job raising you. If you are the result of how good of a mother she was, she was one terrific lady...

Toe, this is one of the sweetest and dearest tributes to both your Mother and your Dad. You've got a great big compassionate heart, my friend.

Your sweetness shows through here all the time, by the way.

Your Dad had talent, too. Thank you for sharing these treasures with us.
Hugs,
Ethel
