Evenings at the Inn

I keep to the edges
where windows and small tables
share company
while looking out on the sea.
From that vantage
I observe new arrivals sipping expensive wine
between mouthfuls of conversation.
Being a nibbler
I relish the cheese and crackers
brought by the waitress
with whom, three years back,
I first made an agreement.
Whenever she serves me
I avert my glance from the mandatory cleavage
required of her by management. In return,
during refills of free coffee,
she relates her life story.

Wonderful imagery pulled me in and I didn't want this to end!
May I ask for more please?

If I were to ask
"how does the story begin?"

Would you share?

Three years -- sounds serious.  lol  Seriously, this was such a good window to a scene -- could really visualize -- and well written.

This so sounds like you, Bob. Always a gentleman and a gentle man.

And of course, ever the observer.

iliana .... Window seats are always the best. Thank you. Bob

TD - Thank you very much, especially for the word "wit". Often I fear that I miss that mark terribly. Bob

Corinne - Thank you for the kind words.

Sunshine - Smiling.

But wonderful!  I loved this.  I do hope you pen her story----she can trust words like yours.
