Moved from a shack to a barn

0 posted 2004-05-04 10:30 PM

They move among us
Waiting at the corner for the light
Sharing an elevator
Taking in the sights

Tourists without cameras
Visiting for a time to sample our culture
Doing, as the Romans do

You might be struck by one
in a place of “High Art”

Sitting aloof and alone, pensively silent
Before Previati’s “The Dance of the Hours”
Or Raphael’s “Nymph Galatea”

Or where one might find music
Leaking into the evening

Form-fitted in the fabric of midnight
Barely swaying to notes of blue smoke
An uncommon woman in a basement “Jazz bar”

Angels, do walk the world of men

You can recognize them by their translucent beauty
Or the weightless manner they walk down the street
And some become intrigued with the notion of flesh

So, if you’re lucky enough to find one
And fortunate enough to find one willing
Memorize well, what details you can

Delight in the down that travels her spine
Taste it with kisses from the base to her nape

Remember the insistence
From the urge of her heels, on the small of your back
And the clear, light soprano of her songs of completion

And later, in the quieting
The furl of her wings that encompassed you both
In a cone of white feathers and the silence of ages

Recall all you are able, before you are parted

A sensually superior write Ed!!
Loved the images that the metaphors conjured up in my mind.
This is by far one of if not 'the' best of yours.

Love does indeed seem to give one wings, yes? Tender words from the heart, Ed, enjoyed reading your words again.

i had a look at the paintings...the are absolutely breathtaking....fit so well with this poem.

this is such a sensual delicate journey of love and adulation...and seeing the whispers amongst the screams

you truly have an eye for beauty, and hopefully it knows that its beholder is just as exquisite

That was so sensual, it made me shiver.

You are right, of course, but they come in both genders!  Wonderful poem and I liked the way you made your angel real.
