That I could hold you
Take your hand beside the stream
See into your deepest grieving
Lift to heaven every dream

More than friendship might discover
As our eyes trade secrets kept
Stilled my hands of telling tremble
Joy escapes in wonder wept

Voices velvet in the sharing
Far too much to steady long
Taste these tears perfumed in longing
Given in a hope too strong

Kept away from harm for certain
Angel arms will soothe your smile
Warm the will on lips of love
Our separate space a stalwart style

That I could hold you
Heal the torment left belied
Smooth the salve to quell your aching
Full the feelings spooled inside
