Carnival Twist of the Mind

Rio is beating it’s miracle drums
Through the carnival streets of delight
The beaches are quivering to magical strums
Along glimmering diamonds of night

It’s the rhythm of life, it’s the rhythm of love
It’s the back and forth roll of the sea
It’s the up from below, and the down from above
It’s the love that was never to be

Drum me a heartbeat, strum me a dance
I know my fate but I’ll still take a chance
Tonight love will come in a fiery glance

The samba is waking to slithering hips
It’s the sleek painted lady of dance
She moves like a serpent with ruby red lips
It’s a carnival night of romance

Illusions of ecstasy turn into bliss
And are leaving all troubles behind
But love doesn’t bloom on a night such as this
It’s a carnival twist of the mind

Drum me a samba, strum me a beat
Life of the living is down in your feet
Not dancing tonight is accepting defeat

It’s the rhythm of life, it’s the rhythm of love
It’s the back and forth roll of the sea
It’s the up from below, and the down from above
It’s the love that was never to be

Liz

You've got me moving...I love to dance.  Your poem was like music that I could dance to.

I always love your words, Liz, but this one was an echo of my heartbeat.
