Listening to every heart

AfterMathing

I imagine, you, too,
have been there,
done that,
the very few
who haven't…

will.

Still,

I hold all in perspective
and get reflective ~
was the aftermath
the projected?

Hindsight is glorious,
gets downright uproarious
thinking, "if I could do it again,
what would I change
and if, and when?"

Taking up the
insight of one
who became completely undone
listening to hormones
instead of sense
now residing in
recompense

this aftermathing pickup
going through motions in
slow-mo-time
arguing now with only one's self
the mind is a battlefield
occupied with mines…

the other boot has dropped
plopped
down into the mud
and you wonder
where did the good times go?

Relating, relating….
knowing it's not as bad;
not like the survivors
of the Holocaust…
not like a mother
whose child she's lost…
not like the couple
who watch as the cost
of medical bills
sweep them away…

aftermathing…
pickup cleanup brushup time
making rotten right
wrapping cotton tight
'round my arms
for even alone one needs warm.

Wisdom comes to
those who have, after all,
aftermathed…
and have walked the path
feeling alone
where hundreds have gone
before them…

resiliency sets in
feeling like new-worn skin,
a little taut,
perhaps a little fraught,
with tensions tensed,
like animated suspension

~*~

Won't want to repeat
an aftermath
but life is not quite,
no not quite
like that…
for there is an aftermath
in birth and death
even after
paying taxes…

and in this resiliency
amidst the aftermathing moments
I have to smile…

because I needed that guile
to go that extra mile…
so I could take that road
that will lead me on
to better whiles...

and the trip?
The
         trip
                    starts
                                 now.

Karilea, such wisdom this is....all of it.

Relating, relating….
knowing it's not as bad;
not like the survivors
of the Holocaust…
not like a mother
whose child she's lost…
not like the couple
who watch as the cost
of medical bills
sweep them away…

aftermathing…
pickup cleanup brushup time
making rotten right
wrapping cotton tight
'round my arms
for even alone one needs warm.

And this part???? I certainly do relate...no matter how
bad I think it might have been, (or is), there are
so very many worse off than I have ever been...or will ever be.
And yes, "even alone one needs warm"

Hugs,
Ethel

Interesting how some days the words of others carry a very familar thread...

Wonderful Karilea.

Karilea,

Those who have faith at the very least have an aftermath to look forward to... enjoyed!

Yep, to the next, aftermath...

it isn't the grind I mind.. it's the grit

Fantastic Karilea, I echo Opeth.

There will always be an aftermath, Karilea.  In many cases it becomes experience.

believe in what your heart feels...

Life is a trip, for sure, after the math!  lol  No, really, this was such an enjoyable retrospect, on the one hand; and on the other, it was very inspirational.
