Oft times in ancient Chinese culture there is the Hermit figure, a scholar or court official that has left his previous life and gone to live an existence of very meager means.  In China to become a recluse you had to go to the mountains of the west because the lowlands were heavily populated.  The old man with a long beard sitting on the mountain top became associated with these hermits who shed possessions and comforts for peace and contentment.  These poems will be about a fictional poet name Zhan Zhing who has left his post as a city minister to become a hermit and write poetry.

I can no longer agree
With the things I see
So I leave my home
The piles of drab stone
And begin a new journey

I surrender choices to you
When rice is too few
Where the poor will go
I no longer know
It’s something I can not do

I go to find poetry
Far mountain beauty
And peace in my soul
As slow I grow old,
Just to be from the city.

cannot tell you how I love the city, like a giant playground, the light, mimes and musicians in the streets, the shows...but if given choice, would leave in a heartbeat...love the way you've composed this...and wondering, though, I don't mean to pry....if this is something you have done...people think I'm a little different when I say...I love seclusion...don't most?

Very much enjoyed.

Very beautiful! This yearning to seek isolation, silence, solitude and to "go inside" can be very very strong. Many may wish to do this, but only a few realize it.

Thank you, LeeJ,
I also love seclusion, at times describing myself as an Urban hermit.  As for doing it, well sort of long ago when I lived in West Virginia, but work brought me back to the populated areas.  Perhaps in a few years, I’ll retire to a secluded area and just watch the grass grow.  Later, not now.

Thank you, Margherita,
Pleased you enjoyed.

Thank you, Susan
Come along, this journey of words is just beginning
Although it might be rather slow and sedate
I am pleased to have you along

Professor,
I am eager to see were the poet will take us on these journeys. I enjoyed this very much, easily visualizing long-bearded
aged man in interest and contemplation on summit.
