MARTIE

Her heartstrings are a soft euphoric lute
That play the light, sweet melodies of time
Her fingers sweep like feather wings across
The breadth of scales that are her spirit’s chime

And she can pluck the pleasure strings of youth
That strum a portrait of her glistening days
And brush her wing in dainty strokes beyond
The depth of thought that cradles her malaise

For not a golden chord remains untouched
Unfelt by blissful fingers in the cold
She does not shun the sun nor hide in dark
The music that is hers, the naked soul

Her truth is what is pleasantly unfurled
In pureness of her femininity
Her arms stretch out to harp’s most distant string
And strike its highest chord in ecstasy

Then pacing fingers to the deepest tone
She strikes them all, not setting one apart
So delicate the melodies that flow
From this, the lyric contents of her heart

I cannot see the world from where she sits
Nor play with fragile grace what is, what was
For there is not another who could pluck
The golden strings of life the way she does

Elizabeth
This poem is a delight to read, lovely, how its lyrics fall from the lips.

"For not a golden chord remains untouched
Unfelt by blissful fingers in the cold
She does not shun the sun nor hide in dark
The music that is hers, the naked soul"

You could not have said this better...

Lovely, lovely, lovely.....poem, poet, subject

Liz, this was beautiful in it's entirety. The flow, the cadence, the rhyme ... perfection as always, my friend.

You've captured the essence of Martie through a melody of words only you can perform. The warmth and depth in this piece portrayed not only a wonderful symphony of words, but a true friendship.  Just lovely.

Best wishes and hugs to you both,
/Kit

When she told me she was going for a visit...I said I cant wait to see the poetry!! What a loving, sweet, tribute you have penned Liz. I'm sure you inspired each other in many ways, and we will get to enjoy the end results.

especially

Then pacing fingers to the deepest tone
She strikes them all, not setting one apart
So delicate the melodies that flow
From this, the lyric contents of her heart

This is so true....

Such a loving tribute to one who is the best of us in so many ways...thank you for giving us this, and I for one am keeping it where it belongs -- in my library.

Wonderful!  You know that I'd been meaning for ages to write a poem about Martie but I never felt I was quite up to the task, and I'd been so far gone from piptalk lately that it's not something I've wanted to attempt---

I can understand where your inspiration comes from, she's a fantastic poet and her perspective is incredible.  I think you've captured her craft beautifully...

Who else could have written such a lovely tribute to our Martie but you, dear Liz.

When I see you all in the picture Nan posted, I remember those wonderful days I spend at your place two years ago and I get a little homesick.

I hope, one day, to see you all again.

Big hugs to you my friend, for this beautiful gift you gave us.

4 wonderful poets all dressed in blue,
I can't express the love that I feel for you.

Elizabeth you have written Martie as the pure melody that she is.  Like a fantastic piece of music, she is more appreciated with each reading, hmmm, very similar to that Santos woman

Thanks for the call - I miss you all.

Today I'm only moving clouds, tomorrow I'll try mountains.

Martie, there is so much more to you than could ever be written in a poem. You and Nan and Denise have proven once again the power of friendship, friendship that was born on the blue pages of poetry.

PS I am simply quafed at all of the gracious remarks to this poem. Thank you dear friends
If you are not familiar with the word "quaf", perhaps Martie could enlighten you.
