Pulling the covers over my head
   I hide from the night.
The sounds of the night are terrifying.

Sometimes, it's the unpleasant things that remind you of love.
You remember the warmth of another body next to you,
      Rising and falling,
   As the horns curse,
And the streetlights shine their leprous light.

For years I believed that it was all rainbows and daisies.
For years after, labour and strife.

Now I see that it is somewhere between.

There is labour and strife,
   There is toil and striving.
Yet, late at night,
As you lay,
Curled up with a warm body by your side,
      It makes it worthwhile.

I believe the most important component of a poem is rhythm. Rhythm is the heartbeat of a poem. It is what makes poetry poetry.
