This was published last year in the Taj Mahal Review, an international poetry anthology in English published in India.....

Within This Fortress (for my poet warrior)

In the deepest night of winter's falling
When snow lies heavy on forest and field,
I hear my poet warrior calling.

His softest words a gentle power wield,
Tuning my heartstrings to his song alone;
My dreams to his beckoning voice must yield.

Within this fortress of guardian stone
I am but a prisoner of my lord,
a prize given for allegiances won.

But I will not be so easily stirred
To give my fealty where I do not choose,
My heart yields only to a poet's sword.

Nightly my favors my dark lord pursues,
Ignorant of what ignites my desire;
He understands not my will to refuse.

There is another whose strength I admire,
Whose passionate eyes make me long to be free;
The touch of his hand sets my blood afire.

Alone in my bower my fantasy
Runs rampant with thoughts of his mouth on my skin,
Whispering devotion and poetry.

I imagine his touch and tremble within,
His knowing hand brings me all shades of delight;
It's this warrior's love I long to win.

Perchance in the deep of this winter's night,
My lord twice refused and sleep close at hand,
Fate will relent, and our two hearts unite.

This rhyme rocked. I got it. And that felt good, because there are times I don't get it. This is the first poem I have ever read of yours, I guess I will have to start looking out for words.

that would be me, digging around in the archives...the place I worked tonight was so boring, if I didn't have PIP, I would have fallen asleep.

well thank you shadows for reading my work and for reminding me of one of my favorite sites. I tend to get busy with the two sites where I am on staff and neglect others I truly enjoy.

I think it's great that you're here. I found a number of talented poets back in the archives, hoping they would come back again and share what they have written while being gone so long.

The place has grown...but I still miss the old days.
