First Kiss (for my dreamer)

Sitting here
in late winter sun
My mind leaps forward
to late summer heat.
The scent of fresh-cut grass
drifts up from my nose
and behind closed eyes.
The sounds of construction
half a mile away disappear,
swallowed up within the watersong
that now fills my ears.

You and I beside a river,
our eyes bright with moonshine
and long ago dreams.
We both know the time has come
to reach beyond dreaming.
Your eyes pool with river-clarity,
settle my pounding heart until
its rhythm matches your own.
I feel all apprehension slip away
as you tentatively reach for my hand.
You smile and raise it to your lips,
gift it with a gentle kiss
that lingers until I cannot help
but smile back.

Your eyes catch mine
and hold them there, suspended,
the way you still hold my hand.
With your other hand
you stroke my cheek, cup my face
as you pull me closer.
Moonlight slips between us
closing the distance until
you are just a breath away.
I wrap my arms around your waist
as you hold my face in both your hands,
your mouth hovering just above mine
as you search my eyes.

Looking deep for one long moment
you lower your lips slowly,
just barely brushing mine at first,
dropping little kisses like summer rain
on my eyes and forehead and nose.
I close my eyes to receive them all,
one on my cheek, then another
just behind my ear. Finally
you cover my mouth with yours,
your tongue sliding softly
between my waiting lips,
moist with anticipation.

Suddenly all my senses sharpen.
I hear the rush of the river
a few feet away,
singing over stones and grass
to the melody of birds
in nearby trees.
I smell the smoke that drifts on the wind
from a nearby barbecue
mixed with the musky scent
of your desire.
Your kiss is sweet and tastes
of cinnamon and honey,
enticing me to drink a little deeper.
I slip my fingers beneath your shirt
and your skin feels smooth,
warm to my touch as I feel your heart
beat faster with each small caress.

Then, just as quickly, my senses dull
until all I know is in that kiss.
I am falling through endless air
as our tongues weave and dance,
slipping softly between our lips.
I cannot seem to catch my breath,
I am dizzy, spinning through a dream.
But your arms hold me closer
and I know you will not let me fall.
Time slows again, and my senses return.
You gently ease your mouth from mine
as my eyes open against my will.
I see myself within your eyes and I know
I will never see myself the same again.

I soooo totally held my breath through this entire read and I read it really really slowly because I was so enthralled and didn't want to miss a single thing, and I actually felt like this was MY first kiss, and I was swept away, and W O W !!!!!

I would rather my words fall upon deaf ears than a closed mind...

You are all new to me except Seymour but I thank you for your generous comments. This was actually about a first kiss with someone new that I am anticipating --- he has promised when we meet at last  it will be the kiss to end all kisses..we'll see   I am especially touched by your comment AZblond...I am delighted it was that real for you. Thanks again for reading and commenting everyone.
