Winged thoughts salted by stinging memories,
smooth sandy trails left far behind,
searching rockier roads ‘neath steeper cliffs

and all seek safe harbor but the insane or foolish hearts
that don’t know when to sit still and accept
a seemingly gentle breeze upon quiet shores, bent knees

so into another setting sunset I wind my way
over passages of space, time and reality,
venturing into the lands of guesswork again.

Why must these feet always meet the highway
without a clearer map to be guided by
than the one in the seat of these well-worn pants?

The grass is often greener on the other side,
everyone knows that to be a living truth.
I never listened to Dr Ruth, maybe she lied.

Sometimes the close grassy knoll holds too many rough barbs,
stickers that bite and fester well after midnight
into something impossible to heal, even in bright daylight.

Wandering through life's myriad of mazes in wonderment,
jumping from rock to rock, sometimes circling 'round,
I somehow manage to land on my feet each time.

love the title and content of this;  I have a
piece of art in my hallway of a gypsy family at a campsite near an intersection near where I work.Their expressions tell it all.  Do we all have a little gypsy in us?  I bet most do.I enjoy your writing very much, Midnitesun.

Kacy, I think that your move to the coast has brought out a side of you I hadn't seen before.  I understood this piece so well -- you see, I'm a Gemini.  I gave up the gypsy about 10 years ago though!  This was a great poem!

I won't mention any names, but you are being envied more than a bit with this.
Be safe and enjoy!
And stop in once in awhile and tell us all  about it.
Please?

Thanks friends, for stopping by to say goodbye and sharing a thought.
I'll be back soon.
And Krawdad? thanks for your tender caring words. Since my daughter goes with me everywhere, I try to err on the side of caution for her sake, if not my own.
