I AM NOT SUPERSTITIOUS

Superstitiously my feet
never step on the cracks –
I don’t know why except I was told
you step on the cracks and something bad
would happen .
Truth is, I don’t believe in superstition,
but my feet never step on the cracks anyway.

Black cats, yeah . . .
the only good cat’s a dead cat;
the best cat of all, is a dead black cat –
but I don’t kill’em,
it’s just something I heard.

Ladders, salt & pepper,
they make sense.
Why tempt fate
and have something fall on your head,
burn your eyes
or make you sneeze.
Superstition?  –  naw, horse sense.

Birthday cakes.
If you blow out all the candles,
in one breath, you get your wish.
Fat chance!
I’ve tried that all my life,
well, at least once a year,
and to date no one has ever
thrown me up on the table
and ravished my body
while feeding me cake.
So now I blow them out in several breaths,
just to make a point –
no, it has nothing to do
with there being sixty candles on the cake.

If you get a chill up your back or Goosebumps,
it means that someone is walking over your grave.
Now I have no intentions of laying in a grave,
especially my own, to see if that comes true.

And of course knowing that it’s bad luck,
for all you smokers out there,
to light three cigarettes with the same match,
seems sensible to me,
I mean, match stems are pretty short
and burn pretty fast, so . . .

I’m a little more leery about Evil Spirits though.
Someone said they can’t harm you when you stand in a circle,
Personally I’ve never been able to stand in a circle,
and besides, I’m not superstitious anyway,
but just in case I keep at least one clover in my pocket,
plan on dying on Good Friday (so I’ll go right to heaven),
always scratch my nose in private,
keep itching powder in the palm of my right hand
chase falling leaves on the first day of Autumn,
never look in a mirror by candlelight,
and I shot the only three seagulls I ever saw flying directly overhead,
(three seagulls flying together, directly overhead, are a warning of death soon to come).

Yep,  that one was true.

In any case, I’m not superstitious.
Careful, yes.
But would you cross a busy street without looking first?
Stick your finger in an electrical outlet,
stand in front of an on-coming train . . .
See, careful, not superstitious.

I am not – Superstitious . . .
now what was that about sneezing on Sunday??

Thanks for the funny reminder of things I heard (and in most cases believed) when I was a kid. Whew, it's so much easier to believe the truth!

Can't stop laughing...and thanks...cause from now on I will ALWAYS wonder if the Birthday boy is wishing the same thing as you when he blows out the candles...(and could make quite an interesting topic for the next year if YOUR wish happens to someone else)...oops...gotta run...the cat is coming this way...little black thing with a swagger in his step.........

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...
