The phone rings..
it is Richard Brautigan
twenty years dead,
but back to say a single soft hello
and hang up again.

He makes me think
of trout fishing and bowling trophies,
fried potatoes and pitchforks,
Rommel and Big Sur
all surrounded by the sound
of a single gunshot.

If you haven't read Brautigan...please do.

Yes, highly recommended.  He was real big
in the late 60s-early 70s...the last of the
"beat poets"   Most famous novel was "Trout
Fishing In America"   Had about four books of
poetry..."The Pill Vs. The Springhill Mine Disaster", "Rommel Drives On Deep Into Egypt",
"Loading Mercury With A Pitchfork", "June 30th,
June 30th"

You would like him, Grover,  short stuff and witty.  I know he influenced me a lot.

Dingus~
You rocked me when I saw the title of this one~
I wasn't sure anyone else here knew of Richard and his writings~

Well ... sharing my favorite of his here -

LINT
I’m haunted a little this evening by feelings that have no vocabulary and events that should be explained in dimensions of lint rather than words.

I’ve been examining half-scraps of my childhood. They are pieces of distant life that have no form or meaning. They are things that just happened like lint.'

Thank YOU for this reminder that I need to do some more Richard reading~

While I was in but not of the era
[old fashioned folks raised an
old fasioned kidlet...]

I can still appreciate the gift
this poet exhibited...

I'm off to find his treasures.

Oh, and adding you to my library.

Karilea - if I whisper, will you listen?  Keeping in mind, I must stand close...
