Pockets Of The Young

Antiquity not foreign, but past, gone non the less
her hand a’ hold a candle its’ wax veining down
laden smile past implanted tear fills a mouth of grief
channels of mold replace that sunshine of golden entries
her passion for liberty, her challenge to all, for all, she makes that call.

Precipitous her way once was for the truth and freedom
but her bell’s ring now silenced, delayed, betrayed, offended.
What lands, and oceans, and space will not be revealed?
What heart not touched by her joy, or the pain in her distress?
Her call to all, unnoticed by intense passions of lust and greed.

Her blue sky, and white pristine stars, her red and white stripes furled.
Again she cries, take my hand and be free, take my justice and liberty,
take my soil, and lakes and rivers as you please, her call to be distinguished.
Her passionate call for liberty and freedom’s ring emasculated by disease.
Hate has taken hold her sleeve and her somnolent stance wanes in the storm.
Yet, she calls, and waits…

Who will those be, to have resolve, courage, relentless audacity?
Who will stand beside her, who will bless her, and who will die to hold her up?
Where are that gratitude of gold and silver, not coin, nor a poisoned fruit, nor death, but truth and life?

It is in the pockets of the young.

Such strong patriotic emotions in your poem.
Timely, and very well done.

Hey, how come we don't have these emotions or principles about our Country, Canada? We envy you (at least I do)!

beautifully described JL, makes me realize the importance of leaving this place behind, better then we found it...we must, otherwise, history repeats and repeats and change becomes stagnant....your heart is filled to the brim with concern for others...and the future.

Thank you for writing and sharing
