Flows the river Ninnescah,
‘Cross verdant valley in spring’s first thaw,
Through the bosom of the plains,
Amid the drift’s; snow’s last remains,
Iced vestige of north wind’s enslave,
Wakes tall grass prairie in trackless wave.
Wildflowers rise to snows begone,
In crystalled silence of the dawn.
For once again has come the spring,
Gloried green of nature’s bring.
Fertile plains in natural splendor,
That only gods to earth could render.
Comes forth new life from winter’s tomb,
As comes the spring, comes prairie’s bloom.

Fisherman
I like the way this poem starts in the closed bud of winter, then opens into the full flower of spring.

Only one who knows this land
that well
can whisper spring upon a wing...

Thank you again, Sir...
