Lost in Her Night

Is it darkness, which is so compelling?
Or is it you that has that curse within?
What is it you have searched out?
Where are your thoughts… sin?

Thrashed about with love untrue
Beaten breathless nursing a swelling burse
Found lazily daydreaming with only one shoe
Your home away from home a dungeon too.

Faceless crowd closing in for the kill
You immersed in what you call the thrill
Where are your children, where have they gone?
Focused on your duty you sing your sad song.

Comfortable, you swear you will not live that again,
but night comes, and you put on your cat-like grin.
Thankful, you say, it is only one more day
Then the lights will be bright and no longer a listless gray.

But now you have aged throughout the long years
silently you cry out for compassion in waning tears.
Dried up in your stupor you fail in your plight
Afraid, alone, and lost, in your night.

Regret is too common among bright stars...so often we repeal our dreams, and forget we are but mortal.  That's where love comes in...and friendship.
Well done.

You know, JL, it was your poem that reminded
me of Dixie's request...so thank YOU for, ah,
lighting my way!

listless games pay attention in the end...to the wrong end of the tune...smiles and hugs...good one, sad how we humans sometimes seem to repeat history, or chose blatenly what we know is wrong for us...good one JL, good message
