I rolled my bed out on the sand,
Then built a coffee-fire.
This wild and lonely desert,
Is the home that I desire.

The smell of sage upon the wind,
Coyotes sing their song.
Out here in the desert-
Is the place where I belong.

I'm looking back on fifty-
That's a lot of wasted years-
My brow is lined by worry,
And my cheeks are carved by tears.

I used to love the ladies
Their laughter light and free,
Now, out here in the desert,
Is the only place for me.

It is my close companion,
With a unique set of sounds...
And life unseen by eye of man,
Each time the sun goes down.

Friends and loved ones, long since dead,
Come here to share my fire,
Night here in the desert,
Is all that I desire.
