Saluting with misty eyes

0 posted 2004-04-19 08:03 PM

You're lying there
Blood
Mixing with the dirt
Encasing the lines
On your too young face
We've been together
You and I
Buddies
Since the Island
Covering each other's back
No More
I loved you
More than you knew
Yet, no tears are shed
Only unending relief
To live another day
Time to move on
One last salute
Semper Fi
I'll carry on

This is my small tribute to the Americans who have died in the renewed fighting in Iraq. Although I specified Marines, it is respectfully dedicated to all members fo all branches of the service- men and women- who have given the Supreme Sacrifice for their comrades in arms.

Some people are like Slinkies . . . not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

TAPS

Engaged for the service, this sullen lone bugle sings.
Singer of the lost… the many… or the few…
He alone designated portraying his appearance
as love and respect as he cries his song of blues…
Unchanging… the words unspoken, the lonely tune the same.
Not to miss a note, not at all to be refrained.
He possesses the song of death, in that he sings well trained.
To give to all who die, their last word, for their memories sustained.

God Bless our service men and women.

JL

So touching and what a nice tribute to courage.  I've a nephew in Iraq now, a brother soon to go.  I'm married to a VFW and the daughter of a VFW.  It means a lot to read and see appreciation and love for those who give so we might live as we do. Thanks for sharing.
