Your Gift to Me

Come sit by me
My friend, my love
And let me whisper
Of all you’ve done
To touch my heart
To enrich my soul
Layers of joy
And sorrow unfold
To lay about
In a quilt of great treasure
The warmth of your love
Of your value beyond measure
For not only I
Am warmed by you
But all those about us
That know you too
And once the seams
Have all been sewn
The toil of stitching done
That beautiful quilt will cover me
In a blanket of your sweet memory
And such a treasure
Shall never wear
For in my heart
You will forever fare

I could "feel" with you, my friend.  Very well written.

Sigh...I am getting so emotional tonight, and this wonderful piece made me well up with the warm fuzzies.  Beautifully expressed.

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...

Muted,

I am so glad that I could create something that touched you and I hope that your partner will know that our lives are intertwined with those we share them with and in doing so, part of ourselves are carried on even when we've moved on.  I wish I could share with him that we are part of a greater existence and this is merely a learning experience along the way.

Love to you --
Susan

Thank you all so much for your kind words of encouragement.  I was quite moved by Muted's challenge -- that helps.  What an inspiring group of people on this forum.  A poet's bliss, to be able to read and to be able to share

I enjoyed this so much.  Your writing reminds me of a friend I used to read often at another site.  Her name was Susan too!
You have such a wonderful way with words.
I am looking forward to reading more from you.

It's better than I could have planned..

Susan,

This was wonderful!

Reminded me of a knitted blanket I have in my favorite color that my grandma made for me...
