Suit of Armor

Her coloring of dark chocolate
and gorgeous strawberry blond, the color of the red fox.
On her paws are four little white mittens as dainty and pristine as a fresh
winter snow.
She is warm, soft and so silky to touch, my kitty cat.
Her delicate purr has the rhythm of the ages
of centuries gone by.
Her sound comes drifting to me on wispy wings and travels into the
archives of yesterday.
Her eyes gentle, a beautiful shade of green
or as black as midnight.
The look held in her eyes saying
she is content and ready to sleep,
with her little white mittens all tucked in tight and ready for the night.
Her ears turn, going on alert.
She leisurely strolls to the bathroom.
I turn to see what she is doing.
There she is in her little suit of armor.
Her helmet on tight, her visor up.
Breastplate snug, leg armor and spurs all in tact.
On each paw she is wearing a gauntlet
while holding her twelve inch sword and mace.
She’s ready and on guard.
The bath mat fallen into the tub-
She stands staring with catlike intensity.
I move the mat.
“A Mouse!”
She pounces.
Mouse jumps faster than a blink of the eye-
Down that silly ol’ drain she does slide.
As the mouse disappears-
She casually takes off her armor, walks slowly back into the living room,
turns,
looks back haughtily
as if to say,
“Mistress! That mouse disturbed my sleep.
From now on, you put on your suit of armor and you catch that silly ol’
mouse .
Good night, sleep tight, and don’t let that silly ol’ mouse bite.”
