Up the Down Staircase

I lay back, unable today.
The emptiness of the woodstove
still sending the odor of burn
into the room, a candle lit
to turn off the sensory imperfections.

Warmth and sunshine made to order,
as I watch through the window
pretending I am there on the outside,
living its beauty.

There are no tears
for the pain that captures me,
nor regrets for being able to feel.
I had not eaten, except for thoughts of you
and today an allergic reaction
took away my freedom.

It was Summer before its time
and I was meant to be alone,
the breaking of the mirror giving me my worth
and the worries for many days to come.

I expected to smile upon the world today
and touch the newness of yesterday's tomorrow.
Instead I travel up the down staircase
to escape the pain of disappointment.

M

Sigh, dear Maureen, great write.
It's tough at times, but it passes.

Excellent write M.
Was the title not the name of a movie long ago?
Well..not that long ago, as we are too young to remember right?
And yes..summer swept in before we even had time to say 'spring is here'.
Hope you can get outside tomorrow and enjoy this break in the weather.

There are no tears
for the pain that captures me,
nor regrets for being able to feel.

I've been thinking along the same lines today.
Happiness lies within, no one else can make it happen for us.
But I know, it gets lonely and it still hurts.

I know too well the feelings here...it's as if you wrote about me today...

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...

nakedthoughts,
I really liked the title, seemed like a perfect fit to the words.
Seemed like an ache within a break
coming from the heart!

Yes, life has a way of making us feel but I sometimes wish it would temper it's rule somewhat.  My best to you, Maureen.
