So proper we were once my friends
But years do change as once it ends
As time and people, word and way
Do change and challenge us each day

A language it was made of change
As words were formed to rearrange
Old thoughts and ways have changed with youth
Their dialect now of vulgar truth

We love the words that speak with rhyme
And hold their beauty throughout time
But others are not as us few
So change the sound to something new

Time brings change that we can’t slow
As words will come that we’ll not know
But we have choice with whom to mix
As change will come that we can’t fix

------------------------

So let us hold what we hold dear
Forget the change, which we all fear
Enjoy the books that treat our mind
Where literature so grand we find

And let us all just form a pact
That may just let some few react
And write the sweetest form of word
That in the future might be heard

Dear Rick, you surely have a beautiful way of rhyming!
It is a gift to write with proper language and in a special classical form, but I would still say we can tolerate other forms of expression (of course excluding some excessive liberties!).
I love free verse too and that's the way I express myself mostly. What counts for me is the MUSIC that flows from the words, whether they rhyme or not. And of course the MESSAGE.
I do hope you may hear tunes of beauty even if it is not your own way of writing poetry.

Thank you.
Love, Margherita

Dear Margherita, great to see you here my friend, thank you for replying, I do see beauty everywhere and do not believe that just because I write one way that that is the only way, this question was the topic in my writers group and I think that they meant just how language has changed over time, and how our youth express themselves, which is often unbecoming. Thanks for your thoughts Margherita, always great to read them and reply to them, be well my friend, we will catch up again soon.

Sincerely
Rick

Dear Rick, I agree with your remarks!
There are changes and the gap of generations sometimes creates conflicts not easy to solve.

ah, yes, Rick, the language changes so!

The travesty, I think, is when words reflecting joy, peace, celebration are turned into some form of perversion, pain, agony, blasphemy, etc. That is the sadness in the way language trends go.

Your poem states well how gaps may be formed because of language and its uses/meanings that are newly contrived slang.

Hi Rick

I couldn't agree with you more and I'm with you all the way on this one.  It's always such a treat to read your words.  I very rarely visit PIP now but when I do I always look for your words because they are always so inspiring.  I hope all is well in your life.

Hi VAS, great to see you here, thank you so much for your reply, it is a shame that a wonderful language must change to accommodate its own demise, one day we shall all wonder what has happened. Take care my friend and again thank you.

Dear Dixie, they sure do and I am sure that we are changing with them as well, but our changes may be a little different and kept closer to ourselves. I hope you are well my friend and having some luck at love.

Dear Sue, great to see you, hope you are well and all is going well, I too do not get much chance to visit as often as what I would like, but to do so and find my friends all still about, makes it all worth while and enjoyable. Thank you for your reply my friend and also your words of wisdom.

To you all my friends, again thank you, all take care and see you all again soon.

Sincerely
Rick

Rick,
I agree with you, but understand that as we are a changing society, words, pleasures, and customs also change.  One hundred years ago, we were a large part agrarian.  Now we are of the information and computer age, where terms, needs, and speeds are much different.  Much of the land itself has yielded to different settings, transitions... And time?  distorted into instants, into now!
I someday aspire to learn the techniques and study the masters, but understand that I'll probably have to learn to understand the language and perspectives from where different generations are coming .
I very much appreciate your thoughts and excellent write.  I'll hold to the old, but
be cognizant of the new.  Tough.

Hi Rick...good to see you in there and read you again...as I love your writes....deep and thought out...I agree...seems as though the more advanced we should have become, the more society has regressed with expression, feelings...consideration...and especially morals...love your concept...I'm with ya whole heartidly...suppose that shows our age, doesn't it...well sir, proud of it...hehehehhehe...hugs Lee J.

Sadelite, thank you so much for your reply, it has brought me back to earth a little, you are so right, we must change with change but remember to appreciate the masters of the past and the beauty that language can hold. Again thank you.

Dear Lee, great to see you, I guess that we are both showing our age, it is a shame that change must come, but it is a blessing that we have been granted what was once and still can be.

Dear Ethel, great to see you my friend, thank you for your visit and reply, as always very much appreciated.

To you all my friends, be well and may the words of beauty always find their way to you.

Sincerely
Rick
