My Friend, John (Response to Muted’s Challenge and Dedicated to My Sister, Sharon)

John was my brother-in-law’s name.
We were born one year apart but the date was the same.
Our beliefs so different in many ways
But one thing we both understood – life is a game.

John died of a rare form of cancer last year.
About a month after the date of his birth.
I’m sure during his suffering, he questioned the worth
But he did not give in until the very end.

You see, John was loved and he loved back.
There was nothing emotionally that he lacked.
He had the support of his wife, sons and friends.
And he spent special time with them.

He’d found the secret we’re here to find,
To love and give to others is divine.
And that understanding helped him live, really live for a while.
Though I wasn’t there, I am able to smile.

I’m able to smile knowing his vibration was sweet
Able to smile, his love for my sister, complete.
Able to smile for lessons shown to his sons.
And smile for memories of him having fun.

And for those who surrounded when pain he went through
I worried and grieved in my own way (they knew)
And distance’s deterrent prevented my reach
For how could I comfort my loved ones when breached

By death’s steely cold knife, severing hearts.

But John, the greatest card player of all,
Had called any bluff before death’s door,
Having put all that he owned into life’s pot
He’d gambled his dreams, and he got a lot.

So I see my sister and sons living on.
My sister’s heart open, still with a song.
My nephews will marry when summer’s along,
And John’s legacy of love is alive and still strong.

Jo,
This is John.  Sharon and the boys would love this.  Recently I've thought a lot about him, too, wanting to write something, but the time is not yet-the words just haven't come.  They must involve "flirting" with life, but that's all I hear right now.  (He died in the month of Daddy's birthday.)

This si really powerful, you do a wonderful job at painting a beautiful picture about something that can be very sad.  Enjoyed this!
