Ocean Of Longing

Within these dark and hallowed halls
I find no peace of mind
Lonely dark abyss, a wasteland
Of thoughts and dreams
Yesterday's scattered in the midst
Like fading memories

Still off in the distance ...
I hear you whisper out my name
And thou you may be gone from my side
Your memory and touch will ever remain

No amount of time can change this
No winds of change shall blow
Forever you will reside in my heart
Forever is my future ... and its a long way to go
In time maybe I'll grow stronger
But I am never really sure
When you told me goodbye that day
My heart crashed to the floor

And for now I feel trapped inside
The dark abyss of my mind
Ever wanting to hold you
Hoping I'll forget in time
I can feel you in the shadows
Why do you taunt me so
I hear your voice whispering
Unlock my heart.. let me go

Dont let me remain a prisoner
Behind these bars of heartbreak
Dont keep me in these chains
In this dungeon which i partake
And when this darkness I can
No longer take, when shadows breathe
Fire into my tortured mind

I think of you, of how it's been
And how your touch could light my
Fire, and tho' the pain is intense
It reminds me of why I came.

Searching for sanctuary in the depth of love's warm waters ...
I let the illusion take me down.
First baptized by your beauty,
Now cold waves of reality cover me and I have begun to drown.

I'm too weak to swim back to safe harbors ...
I'm just too tired to fight the tide.
Caught in the current of this pain,
Again destined to drown in these tears I cant keep inside.

I surrender to the losses ...
I've been here so many times before.
Adrift on this ocean of loneliness ...
Praying for rescue ... but your no where to be found on shore.

I taste the salt of tears
And wonder why I let this happen again
Will it ever be enough
Enough that I will one day just give up

I have longed to hold you
For what feels like forever now
And the memory of your face
Slips farther and farther from my mind

I really don't want to forget
The way you looked at me that night
Though in a way I wish
That we had never met in the first place

If love is meant to happen
Love will find a way
Like lips of moonlight
Whispering upon the bay
If our love is meant to be
You will come back to me

Like the blooming of a rose
In the light of dawn
Like blushing of the sunset
Like the birth of a fawn
If it is meant to happen
Eyes of fate will see
And magically
You will come back to me

And through a crystal curtain
Beaded tears of endless nights
And pain refrained upon a string
Knotted by the wonder why
A gentle parting by my hand
To gaze upon an empty room--
I have no fear, for I'm not here...
Always, I reside with you.

Your scent comes in on humid breeze.
From this ache (again) tonight-
I'll find no ease.
Any trace of you ...
Brings on this slow burn.
A moth to your flame,
(I guess I'll never learn)
Bayou storms rise up ...
Sultry rain comes in slow.
I can still hear your voice,
In whispers, low.
Taste your lips,
Feel your gentle touch ...
(what I lack) is knowing how to (again) let go ...
Of something so fine and needed so much.

What a write!

Like lips of moonlight
Whispering upon the bay
If our love is meant to be
You will come back to me

Especially loved this...

Excellent. TD

for those that don't know what a ping pong poem is .... it is where one person starts a thread with a few lines and the next person adds a few of their own lines and so on and so on and so on  ... it is really interesting to see what everyone comes up with

Haven't played pingpong for years (will have to contemplate it).  This is one for my library!

Jeffrey, I don't know what a "ping-pong" poem is, but I know that I love this!! It reminds me of themes the classic writers used. It's beautiful.
Hugs,
Ethel
