That arrogant voice
How dare he be late!
Sarcasm overflowing
A measure of truth grasped
All prizes littered about
Draping sheets over clotheslines
In my mind’s eye
While I stood at the horizon
There are ghosts living with actual things
Chicken soup wouldn’t smother this mood
Pressing issues…I knew better!
What knowledge plants my ears?
Preparation couldn’t have stood me in a better place
Into watercolors, I flew, well read…black and blues
Shivering from embarrassment, shame
I found resentment when it called
Crossing lines ill-prepared for subsistence
Reaction was the curse of silencing tears

I sat in the oak tree for months, wanting to be a bird
When he wasn’t around
Heartbroken for failing, failing, failing
By his words, from his mouth...to mine!

I morn the loss of those early hours of innocence
Instead, I was taught the laws of some twisted
Emotional psychology...the one which reverts blame
How manipulative!
Sleeping with fear is an inappropriate
And condescending entity, that threatens to kill
Both the mind, body and spirit…
And the clear constitution of some men
Giving rise to supernormal powers
Demonstrating life’s impulses if you choose the wrong card
Self determination pairs with light
Of some greater consciousness to get you through
Those remarks and comments that negate or discount
Nightmares no longer consume
Nor am I a member of some vegetable kingdom
But now infallible to breathing apparatus
I can sit up and take nourishment on my own time
The total sum of the quality of life!
Flesh, bone and muscle led by a some vast intricate
Sensory system, one we call….but ignore
Domestic Violence
